The Port Alberni Port Authority is actively encouraging growth and development of the marine cluster, including, the ship building and repair sector. Specifically, we partnered with The Province of British Columbia, City of Port Alberni and Canadian Maritime Engineering to complete a business case study for a floating dry dock (input link to study here). The study demonstrates a clear market opportunity as demand for ship building and repair facilities on the west coast of Canada far exceeds existing capacity. We will continue to actively work to support and encourage expansion of ship building and repair capacity as a vital economic sector and service for our marine-dependent and opportunistic coastal economy.
